Southwell Minster by Claude Buckle
Southwell minster and cathedral, in the English town of Southwell in Nottinghamshire, six miles away from Newark-on-Trent and thirteen miles from Mansfield. It is the seat of the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham and the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.
The Minster has always been recognised as the Mother Church of Nottinghamshire, and from its foundation, the parish church of Southwell. In this railway poster by Claude Buckle painted in 1956 the architectural details of the Cathedral are captured. The original oil painting is in public ownership at the NRM in York.
