This England of ours: Historic Totnes by Claude Buckle
Lying on the banks of the River Dart, Totnes has its East Gate Steamer quay, Elizabethan architecture, Norman castle, Ramparts Walk, Guildhall, and a range of other historic listed buildings. The view in the railway poster by Claude Buckle has little changed today and shows the East Gate arch an emblematic feature to be seen when making your way up the hill in the centre of the town. First rebuilt early in the 16th Century, and again in 1990 after it was largely destroyed by fire, the poster painted in the 30’s, pre-dates the fire and is an important archive record and also a popular poster.
