A pencil drawing by Claude Buckle - Hereford

pencil drawing of the wye bridge and hereford cathedral by claude buckle
Pencil drawing of the Wye Bridge and Hereford cathedral. Claude buckle captures the feel of the city as it was in the 1930's. This is also the same view point as the poster which was made at the same time. The view today (2014) is wrecked by the new bridge and modern buildings that are on the far left side of the bridge. Claude Buckle also painted the inside of Hereford Cathedral. See the poster page.

The name "Hereford" is said to come from the Anglo Saxon "here", an army or formation of soldiers, and the "ford", a place for crossing a river.

Created in 1933.
