The Turnberry hotel by Claude Buckle

Turnberry Hotel on the Ayrshire coast

Turnberry is a golf resort on the coast of the outer Firth of Clyde in southwestern Scotland. Located in South Ayrshire on the rugged coast, it comprises three links golf courses, a golf academy, a five-star hotel, designed by James Miller and completed in 1906. Red-roofed Turnberry Hotel will keep its rightful place as one of the world’s top hotels for years and years to come. The hotel in the style of an opulent Edwardian country house was built on this 800-acre estate at the turn of the 20th century, and its grandeur has been carefully preserved ever since. This very early railway poster by Claude Buckle captures the pre 1930’s looks of the hotel which serve the famous golf links of the same name. The poster was produced for LMS (London, Midland and Scotish railways ) well before public ownership and in the heyday of this private railway.  (1930)      BACK
